World Expo 2020 Dubai - Full Round-Up

Corona-Update: The Expo 2020 has been moved by one year. I updated the article accordingly,

Are you planning to visit the World Expo 2020 in Dubai? Starting around the Dubai main season on 1st October 2021 and running until 31st March 2022, now (actually not now, but soon!) would be a perfect time to start planning!

I have put together an overview of all the things you need to know on how to make your visit in style. Especially Dubai can give the luxe traveller a headache when planning a trip: the sheer amount of luxury hotels is overwhelming. Fear not, I am giving you the only overview that you need.

The World Fair(tm), as it was then called, has brought us the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Space Needle in Seattle, and for Dubai it will bring us … a lot of unfinished landmarks (Dubai Creek Tower, e.g.) and also the already existing high rises that have been built in the complete absence of a world fair that are worth a trip, nonetheless.

There is an impressive dome, Al Wasl Plaza, at the center of the expo, though, which represents the motto of this event: "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future". This plaza can hold more than 10,000 people, filled with fountains, waterfalls, parks and palm-lined courtyards. The dome itself is a 360-degree projection screen viewable from both the inside and outside.

Dubai in Summer

How bad is it really? How hot? How empty are the streets? How much money can I save for staying off-season?

Dubai in summer - have you been playing with this idea?

I am trying to give some guidance on that topic in this post while recommending a few nice hotels in the city of man-made wonders.

Review - Palace Downtown Dubai

The prince's Downtown Palace was sumptuous and - while being in the center of everything - it still was a calm oasis. A perfect representation of Dubai today: an old Arabian palace amidst modern skyscrapers.

Directly next to the Burj al Khalifa in downtown Dubai this luxury resort might not be on your point-collector's-list, as it is not part of any international chain ("just" the local Address Hotels and the U by Emaar-program), it is still very well worth your money - especially when you book with a Virtuoso agent: we got an upgrade from the "cheapest" room to a big suite. Let's take a look!
